Utah Jazz Two-Way Players Micah Potter and Jason Preston Visit Local Animal Shelter Ahead of the Stars’ First Live Pet Adoption Game

SALT LAKE CITY (February 2, 2024) — The Salt Lake City Stars, the NBA G League affiliate of the Utah Jazz, announced today a new collaboration with Best Friends Animal Society that will involve the team hosting their first live pet adoption game night on Feb. 26. Earlier this week on Wednesday, Jan. 31, Utah Jazz two-way players Micah Potter and Jason Preston paid a visit to the local Best Friends animal shelter  to raise awareness for pet rescues within the community and encourage fans to attend  the upcoming Stars pet adoption game.

Best Friends Animal Society is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that operates the nation’s largest sanctuary for homeless animals, providing adoption, spay/neuter, and educational programs. Their mission is to bring about a time when there are ‘no more homeless pets.’ Their first pet sanctuary was founded in Southern Utah, with the goal of housing unwanted and abandoned pets, while protecting many from the routine practice of minimizing the pet population. After more than 30 years, Best Friends efforts have expanded, inspiring others across the nation to stand up for animals in shelters.

When Potter and Preston visited the Best Friends “lifesaving center” in Salt Lake City, they toured the shelter, helped other volunteers feed the animals, and met the many pets that are available for adoption. The shelter is foster-based and takes in over 2,500 animals each year, including neonatal kittens, dogs, and cats, while providing resources to the community.

On Monday, Feb. 26, the Stars will host the  pet adoption during their game against the Osceola Magic (Orlando Magic affiliate). Dogs and cats from Best Friends shelters across Utah will be on the concourse of the Maverik Center for fans and their families to meet and adopt on site.

Tickets for the Stars game on Feb. 26 at the Maverik Center are available for purchase at slcstars.com or the arena box office. The on-court action will tip-off at 7 P.M. MT, with pet adoptions taking place throughout the game on the concourse. For more information regarding Best Friends, visit bestfriends.org/saltlakecity.
