Salt Lake City Stars Acquire Sundiata Gaines

SALT LAKE CITY (November 21, 2016) – The Salt Lake City Stars, the NBA Development League affiliate of the Utah Jazz, announced today that they have acquired guard Sundiata (sun-DEE-ah-tuh) Gaines. In a related move, the team has waived guard Evrik Gary.

Gaines (6-1, 185, Georgia) was selected by the Idaho Stampede in the first round (15th overall) of the 2009 D-League Draft. He earned a call-up by the Utah Jazz during the 2009-10 season. Gaines finished the season with the Jazz appearing in 32 games and averaging 3.3 points and 1.2 assists per game.

The 30-year-old most recently competed with the Ironi Nes Ziona of the Israeli League, averaging 15.8 points, 2.3 assists and 2.4 steals 33.1 minutes of action. He was also named an Israeli League All-Star for the 2015-16 season.

Gary (6-3, 180, Francis Marion) appeared in four games for the Stars, averaging 5.5 points, 3.5 rebounds and 2.3 assists in 16.8 minutes per game.

The team will host the Oklahoma City Blue, tonight, at Lifetime Activities Center-Bruin Arena. Tipoff is at 7 p.m.
