Jazz Sign McCree to Two-Way Contract

SALT LAKE CITY (December 21, 2017) – The Utah Jazz announced today that the team has signed forward Erik McCree to a two-way contract. In a related move, the Jazz have waived center/forward Eric Griffin.

McCree (6-8, 225, Louisiana Tech) most recently joins Utah from the Sioux Falls Skyforce of the NBA G League, having appeared in 13 games (eight starts), averaging 16.2 points, 5.2 rebounds and 1.1 assists in 29.0 minutes per contest this season. He has totaled two double-doubles on the year, also tallying six games with 20-or-more points, scoring a G League career-best 29 points on Nov. 4 against the Memphis Hustle.

A native of Orlando, Fla., he spent three seasons at Louisiana Tech (2014-17), appearing in 99 games (98 starts), owning career averages of 14.9 points, 7.3 boards and 1.0 assists in 29.1 minutes per game. He became just the sixth player in school history to total 1,400 points and 700 rebounds in just three seasons. As a senior, he earned 2017 All-Conference USA First Team honors with averages of 17.7 points, 8.9 rebounds and 1.3 assists in 33 games (all starts), also registering 13 double-doubles on the year, the second most in the conference. McCree spent his first collegiate season (2012-13) at Murray State, seeing action in 24 games before transferring to Louisiana Tech following the season.

Griffin originally signed with the Jazz on July 20, 2017, becoming the team’s first two-way contract player. He appeared in 19 games (all starts) for the Salt Lake City Stars on the year, averaging 17.3 points and 5.2 rebounds in 31.6 minutes per game.
