Stars Select Three Players in 2017 NBA G League Draft

The Salt Lake City Stars, the NBA G League affiliate of the Utah Jazz, announced today that they have selected center Sidy Djitte (SID-ee JEE-tay; No. 28 overall), forward Alonzo Nelson-Ododa (oh-DOE-da; No. 33 overall) and forward Nahshon George (Nuh-SHAWN; No. 54 overall) in the 2017 NBA G League Draft.

 

Djitte (6-10, 240, Clemson) played four years for the Clemson Tigers and appeared in 127 games (31 starts) averaging 3.7 points and 4.7 rebounds in 14.6 minutes of play. In his senior year, Djitte totaled 116 offensive rebounds, leading all Division I players in offensive rebounding percentage last season. The 23-year-old native of Dakar, Senegal, received Clemson’s Tom Lynch Most Improved Player Award in 2016. He played his final two high school seasons at Northwood Temple Academy in Fayetteville, N.C.

Nelson-Ododa (6-9, 235, Pittsburgh) last played for Tijuana in Cibacopa Mexico, averaging 14.8 points while shooting .615 from the field and 7.8 rebounds. The Atlanta, Ga., native played a total of four seasons at the University of Richmond and Pittsburgh, owning career averages of 4.5 points, 4.0 rebounds and 1.7 blocks in 125 games. Nelson-Ododa concluded his career at Richmond ranked second in career blocks (185) and blocks in a season (78) before moving to Pitt as a graduate transfer.

George (6-9, 200, Idaho) played two seasons for the Vandals, appearing in 47 games (16 starts), averaging 3.5 points and 3.7 rebounds in 12.5 minutes. Before transferring to Idaho, the 24-year-old Hawaii native played two years (2012-14) at Shoreline Community College in Washington.

The Stars acquired the returning player rights to guard Isaiah Cousins, along with the 33rd overall pick in today’s draft, in exchange for the team’s first-round pick (second overall).

The Stars tipoff the 2017-18 season on a two-game road trip against the Austin Spurs (Nov. 3) and Memphis Hustle (Nov. 5) before returning to Salt Lake City for their home opener against the Wisconsin Herd on Nov. 8 at Bruin Arena.
