Stars Night at Vivint Arena

Salt Lake City (November 27, 2017) — The Salt Lake City Stars (1-9) were unable to get a win in their first game at Vivint Smart Home Arena. In front of a team record-setting crowd of 4,721, the Stars fell to the Rio Grande Valley Vipers (8-3), 117-104.

The Stars were led by Eric Griffin who had a game-high tying 23 points, along with four rebounds and two blocks. Nate Wolters also had 23 points, five rebounds and five assists. Utah Jazz assignee Tony Bradley contributed eight points and eight rebounds to help the team, while Naz Mitrou-Long notched 21 points, eight rebounds and five assists.

Salt Lake City kept the game close in the first quarter, finding themselves down by only four. Rio Grande Valley would go on a 13-2 run midway through the second frame to head into the break leading 70-51. While the Stars were not able to close the double-digit gap, they did outscore the Vipers 53-47 in the second half and also tied the Vipers with 22 second chance points and nine fast break points.

All five of the Vipers’ starters scored in double-figures. RJ Hunter paced Rio Grande Valley with 22 points, while Danuel House and Demetrius Jackson each added 19 points. Denver Nuggets two-way player Monte Morris tallied 16 points.

The Stars now head on a two-game road trip to take on the Oklahoma City Blue (Dec. 1) and Austin Spurs (Dec. 2). Both games can be seen at 6 p.m. MT on Facebook Live.
